Moussa Doumbia was a Malian saxophonist and song writer born in 1919 who spent most of his career In Abidjan, Cote D’ivoire. For many years he led & played, often every night, in the Orchestre de la Boule Noire (also known as Moussia Dumbia & les Afros Pop Kings) in the Treichville neighborhood. In the 70s, you could dance all night at La Boule Noire, one of the clubs where Afrobeat developed in the 70s. Doumbia‘s own brand of Afro-Pop boldly incorporates American Funk & Salsa with sounds from all around West Africa. He sings in Dioula, a Mande language close to Bambara.
