The Monastery at Admont, Austria was consecrated in 1074 by
Archbishop Gebhard von Salzburg who donated his books which provided the basis of the Library. Rebuilt many times, the present church, a Benedictine Order abbey, was designed by the architect Wilhelm Bücher to replace the former church after the fire of 1865. It is inspired by the Regensburg Cathedral and was the first sacred building in Austria in the neo-Gothic style. It hosts 150,000 printed works including a11th-century Italian Bible, a 13th century copy of Gratian‘s Decretum, and an illuminated Evangeliarum (Codex 511).
