Born in Abomey, Bénin, Roger Stanislas Tohon (1955, 2019) had first tried to make it as a musician covering James Brown and Ottis Redding. He then had a creative crisis and decided to chill for a while in the countryside, in the Savalou hills in the middle of the country. There, the locals played water drums to chase evil spirits away after a funeral or a wedding. This music is called Tchinkounmey (or Tchinkounmè). Tohon had found his sound: the Tchink System, mixing Afro Beat Funk and Tchinkounmey.
Dans le Tchink Systeme, 1978, is non-stop fun.
