The Church of San Francisco Acatepec is in San Andrés Cholula, Metropolitan area of Puebla, Central Mexico. The first church in this location was built in 1690 by the Franciscans and was beautified throughout the 18th century in the Mexican Baroque style with Talavera pottery, named after the town of Talavera de la Reina, Spain: it is a tin-glazed faience earthenware. The Mexican version is called Talavera Poblana, from the region of Puebla, celebrated for its fine clays and many churches.

Mexican Baroque embraces polychrome extravagance. The great cathedrals of Europe used to be painted with jovial colorings as well.
