Completed in 1999, the remarkable extension of the Royal Danish Library known as the Black Diamond (Danish: Den Sorte Diamant) in Copenhagen was designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen). The building has an outer layer (or cladding) made of a polished Zimbabwean black granite known as Absolute Black.
