Holy Trinity Church of Antartica

One of only 8 churches on the continent of Antarctica, the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church is at the Russian Bellingshausen Station on King George Island, since 2004. It is staffed by monks year-around.

King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands, 120 km (75 miles) from mainland Antartica, has the best harbors on the continent and hosts the bases (or “research stations”) of Korea, Peru, Poland, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, China and New-Zeeland.

For all things Antartica, read the Crystal Desert by David G. Campbell.
