Kabylia is the Berber speaking region of Algeria. Berbers and Kabyles were the original inhabitants of the Maghreb (North Africa) before the Arab invasion. They speak dialects of the same language, Amazigh.

Cherif Kheddam (1927-2012) is the most popular singer and song writer Of Kabylia. His name in Kabyle is Crif Xeddam, in Tifinagh: ⵛⵔⵉⴼ ⵅⴻⴷⴷⴰⵎ.
