The drummer Salah Ragab founded the Cairo Jazz Band in the early 60’s but didn’t record until the 70’s. The band had no less a fan than the Jazz and Avant royalty Sun Ra & his Arkestra who visited Ragab in Egypt. They performed together a few shows in 1971 and 1983 and shared an album where the Arkestra covers the Cairo Jazz Band twice. Here are these two tunes, with both band’s versions: Egypt Strut and Dawn.
