
Louise Bourgeois, born in Paris in 1911, and naturalized American, died in New York le 31 mai 2010, is the artist behind the monumental 1999 work Maman.
Maman is French for Mommy.
Louise Bourgeois‘ mother was a master weaver who repaired ancient tapestries professionally.
The aesthetics of Maman are meant to enhance and be enhanced by the location of its display. Maman therefore exists in multiple copies and has toured the world since its creation, in places like Havana, Wanas Castle, Sao Paulo, Bern and Tokyo.
