Nikoláy Aslánovich Pirosmanashvíli ( ნიკოლოზ ფიროსმანაშვილი in Georgian) 1862–1918 was a self-taught painter from rural Georgia. A shepherd at 15, he started a signboard painting shop at 20. He worked all sorts of jobs throughout his life, from railroad conductor to servant. All the while, Pirosmani never stopped painting, and not just billboards.
