Sidney Nolan, Kelly and horse, 1946

Among Australian artist Sidney Nolan‘s prodigious output, one series of painting about 19th century bushranger Ned Kelly is the dearest to Australian hearts. Nolan‘s depiction of Kelly’s real life armor has become iconic of this time in Australian History.
